Brooklyn Int’l Students ‘Get Creative’ with BEAM Works

In September of 2013, the Beam Center was chosen as a partner in the Digital Ready initiative. This ‘Beam Works’ project is the result of a collaboration with Brooklyn International High School. A team of 11th graders worked alongside Artist/Fabricator Brett Van Aalsburg to create “Current Translation”, a 12-foot welded steel, balancing, and interactive sculpture. ¬†Working along side Van Aalsburg and Beam Center faculty members Allen Riley and Mark Kleback, students learned welding, carpentry, video-making and editing, as well as Arduino programming. ¬†This was all in service of creating the “Current Translation” sculpture.
