In September of 2013, the Beam Center was chosen as a partner in the Digital Ready initiative. This ‘Beam Works’ project is the result of a collaboration with Brooklyn International High School. A team of 11th graders worked alongside Artist/Fabricator Brett Van Aalsburg to create “Current Translation”, a 12-foot welded steel, balancing, and interactive sculpture. Working along side Van Aalsburg and Beam Center faculty members Allen Riley and Mark Kleback, students learned welding, carpentry, video-making and editing, as well as Arduino programming. This was all in service of creating the “Current Translation” sculpture. Learn more about the incredible work of the Beam Center and Beam Works here!
